C-Ream – CE marked under MDR and FDA Registered

Introducing Cingular’s C~Ream single use Acetabular Cup Reamer

Cutting and shaping the acetabulum prior to acetabular implant cup deployment is required for hip arthroplasty. Up until now acetabular cup reamers have been supplied in trays multi-use.

Traditional multi-use reamers dull becoming blunt and are expensive to replace. This can cause strain or injury to the surgeon during the acetabular hip reaming process. Acetabular bone density can vary across the spherical bone cutting surface. Normally multiple sized reamers are used to complete the reaming process - each reaming step requires additional operating room time.

The complications that have been identified with multi-use acetabular reamers –

  • Reusable reamers are subject to deformation and reduction in size.

  • Blunt reamers can cause physical injury to surgeons.

  • Once a risk has been identified Work Health and Safety (WHS) requires change if there is an alternative product available.

  • Blunt damaged or worn hip reamers may cause injury and bone necrosis.

  • Biological remains on multi-use instruments is well known – hip reamers are difficult to decontaminate.

  • Reamer trays weigh significantly more than a single use 200g C-Ream sterile product.

  • Multi-use reamers require decontamination, cleaning and sterilizing prior to re-use.

  • Careful monitoring and maintenance for damage and wear is subjective. Multi use reamer suppliers in some cases will not provide instructions for re-processing and sterilization.

  • Preoperative planning allows surgeons to choose implant cup and reamer size prior to the procedure.

  • In most cases only 1 C-Ream is required – a set of 3 reamers weighing less than 600g would cover a hip replacement procedure.

  • The cost is fixed - 1 C-Ream per procedure – C-Ream provides surgeons with perfect spherical cut – perfect seating of the acetabular hip implant.

  • C-Ream has carbon footprint data – accurate data for multi-use reamers is almost impossible to measure.

C~Ream® is supplied sterile packed and like any new cutting tool the C~Ream® device is very sharp and highly effective and efficient in cutting bone. In addition, C-ream reduces thermal insult to tissues. The C-Ream advantage - minimal risk of injury, only one reamer is usually required for a total hip replacement - saving valuable operating room time. According to some surgeon users approximately 10 minutes per hip arthroplasty procedure.

Other advantages include the absolute assurance that the device is completely clean, sterile and free from any debris that multi-use reamers are prone to due to the difficulty in cleaning. In addition, the absolute guarantee a perfect spherical cut is achieved for perfect implant seating and cup implant placement.

C~Ream®– guaranteed sharp, sterile, first time every time, saving hospitals valuable and expensive operating room time – the Cingular C-Ream Pledge.
